POLISH ASSOCIATION OF ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

1. General information:

The Polish Association of Organizational Psychology (PAOP) is self-governing public organization created and working on the basis of self-governance, law, openness, free will and equality of its members according to the Constitution of Poland, Polish legislation and regulations.

The Association was created in April 2009 and registered 14.10.2009. The initial meeting of PAOP took part in Katowice at University of Silesia Institute of Psychology at the meeting ?The role of organizational psychology in the contemporary world?. Psychologists, practitioners, managers and researchers participated in this initial meeting and represented universities of Poland (Wroclaw University, Poznan University, Catholic University of Lublin, Jagiellonian University of Krakow) and other educational institutes, consulting organizations, etc. Non-government and business organizations were represented by managers of training centers and consulting organizations.

Professor of Work and Organizational Psychology Barbara Kożusznik (University of Silesia, Katowice) was elected President of the Polish Association of Organizational Psychology and professor Stanislaw Witkowski (University of Wroclaw) was elected Vice President.

2. Expression of PAOP will to become EAWOP Constituent member:

The reasons of the Polish Association of Organizational Psychology to be Constituent member of EAWOP are:

• Strengthening the professional interaction and cooperation of the Polish and European psychologists in the field;
• Promotion of the European integration of Poland through professional cooperation;
• Knowledge sharing and experience exchange;
• Professional development of Polish Work and Organizational psychologists.

5. Aim: What are the objectives of association and how it promotes W/O-Psychology (mission statement etc.)

The main aim of the Polish Association of Organizational Psychology is promotion of the development of Organization and Work Psychology in Poland.

The main tasks of the Association are:

1. Coordination and consolidation of professional efforts of researchers, practitioners and educators in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology
2. Development of services in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology for customers from business, industrial, educational and other sectors
3. Promotion of the professional development of the members of the Association and other concerned parties in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology
4. Promotion of international cooperation in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology through participation in international forums, workshops, trainings, joint research and exchange programs
5. Publicizing the achievements and modern technologies in the field of Work and Organizational Psychology

The Association Membership

The Association is open for citizens of Poland and other countries. Individual members of the Association participate in governing the organization, development and implementation of activity plans according to the Statute requirements.

Current membership profile of the Association ? PAOP consists of 36 registered members but over 70 people confirmed their will to become PAOP members and their registrations are expected in the next months.

6. Activities: what kind of activities PAOP have and what kind of „services” PAOP offers to the members:

During 2008-2010, the members of the Association organized and implemented a range of activities. Most significant of them are described below.

6.1. Conferences for researchers and practitioners
for example: March 26, 2009 ?The Role of Organizational Psychology in the Contemporary World?. Psychologists, practitioners, managers and researchers participated in this initial meeting and represented universities of Poland (Wroclaw University, Poznan University, Catholic University of Lublin, Jagiellonian University of Krakow); Polish-Ukrainian Workshop ?Work and Organizational Psychology problems and challenges in Poland and Ukraine? 24-27 September 2009, Katowice, Chorzów; Psychology in Management ? conference for Polish psychologists and specialists in Human Resources Management Katowice October 2009

6.2. New projects

• The PAOP and Institute of Psychology have applied for grant to create new specialisation ?Work, Organizational and Managerial Psychology? at the Institute of Psychology (to be taught in Polish and in English and approved by the Central Certification Commission and Ministry for Science and Higher Education of Poland);
• Bilateral agreement signed between Institute of Psychology in Katowice and Institute of Psychology Kiev, Ukraine (2010)
• Bilateral agreement signed between Institute of psychology in Katowice and University of Valencia Spain (2007)
• Post-Diploma studies at the School of Management of University of Silesia ?Human Resources of Management?
• Meeting of Baltic Area Alliance in Tallinn over 26 and 27 October, 2009. The event was facilitated on behalf of EAWOP EC by Angela Carter. The meeting went on to clarify issues of WOP work in more detail in the Baltic Area. The meeting continued with each of the representatives described their own situation in relation to WOP; its: representation, education, need for regulation and professional development.

7. Who are the members (members should hold a university degree in psychology and/or have an equivalent qualification in psychology).

Members of the Association are individuals (psychologists from universities, research institutions, business establishments) and organisations (public organizations, companies, firms and enterprises of all forms of property, educational and research institutions, etc.) active in the field. Membership in the Association is open for citizens of Poland and other countries. Individual members of the Association participate in governing the organization, development and implementation of activity plans according to the Statute requirements.
